WHAT IS NLP?

Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP, Neuro Linguistic Programming is a fascinating revolutionary study of ‘HOW’ we think and 'HOW' we communicate with ourselves and others, and of ‘HOW’ we can use this to get the results we want. It is a philosophy and educational tool, which is designed to teach people how to become happier and more effective. One can learn how to think and communicate in more useful ways.

Richard Bandler, John Grinder, NLP India

Neuro

refers to Nervous System / Thinking

Our experience of the world comes from how our 5 senses namely visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory take in the information from the world around us. The information is gathered, processed and coded as memories or experiences in our brain.
So every experience has a structure. We can use our mind to change how we feel about unpleasant experiences,to  create more useful future outcomes by just changing  the structure of our thoughts.

Linguistic

refers to Language

Refers to the way we communicate and interpret experience or our mental world through words and phrases. It also refers to our unconscious language of postures, gestures and habits that reveals our thinking.
We can use language to powerfully empower ourselves and others. The way we communicate with ourselves influences how we think and feel and this plays an important role in the actions we take and the results we produce.

Programming

refers to Habits / Behaviours

Refers to the way we construct personal or habitual 'programs' or patterns (similar in some ways to computer programs) of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Just like a computer, each of us run specific programs which produces our behaviours.
We can use our minds to program the behaviours we want more of and eliminate behaviours that are not useful to us. The heart of NLP is modelling successful behaviour.

NLP has grown out of the study of the mental processes of those who can do something exceptionally well, or who have completely overcome some difficult or challenging situation. Most of us grew up thinking that exceptional skills were  a result of inborn abilities, traits or talents. However NLP demonstrates that by thinking about our abilities as learned skills, we can learn any skill we want  by  modelling excellence i.e. by doing the same mental processes as some one  excellent in the skill we want to learn.

NLP is based on the realisation that we create much of our experience by the specific ways we see, hear and feel things in our mind/body- which we refer to as  "thinking".  Each one of us i.e. sees, hears and feels  a situation in different ways. This is how it is possible for  each person to have a different experience of the same situation. For example lets take public speaking. One person might feel really scared to even think about public speaking while someone else might feel really excited about it.  NLP  opens the door for new possibilities as we can now change our experience by changing HOW we think in situations we want a more  enriching experience.

NLP offers effective tools and techniques for a wide range of problems like for overcoming unwanted habits, for phobias , for stage fright and for dealing with  other challenges in life.  NLP also offers ways to enhance self esteem and confidence, improve relationships,  communicate more effectively, overcome fears and create empowering beliefs and create a life you truly want.NLP is fast becoming one of the most sought tools of human enhancement and performance improvement that has ever been known. Science Digest describes it as 'the most important synthesis of information available today about human communication'.

How NLP Began

NLP was co-created and developed by two geniuses, Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the early 70s. They studied some of the most outstanding communicators and human change experts and discovered HOW people learn, HOW people do things excellently & HOW Excellence can be learnt and replicated easily.
